Vaseline beads are faceted, rondelle-shaped glass beads. Their colors are based on the amount of salts in the glass. Originating back to Ethiopia in the early 1900s, they were a part of the African trade. Vaseline beads were made in bright green, red, amethyst, yellow and an opaque blue green. Vaseline beads remain highly prized African trade beads, many of which show evidence of cherished use.
